Bummer. We have HBO but not Showtime.
I don't own the DVD yet. Must buy it!

I've been watching the movie on cable this week (i think for me, it is on Starz! but that might be wrong), and I'm surprised by what they've done with the screen shots. The network seems to be panning over the screen shots, not sure why. not sure if that makes sense the way i described it, but for instance, in the scene with Daniel and Henry talking and smoking a cigarette immediately after HW is put to bed (when they are standing outside the cottage, NOT sitting later), the cable version of it only shows half of the shot, you only see Henry, not both of them. Then the camera wobbly moves over to Daniel, but never do they include both. it's like they are panning over the film as it is playing. it's so weird. so, you really miss a lot of the interplay, b/c you're only getting half the shot sometimes. aaahghghghgh!
did anyone else notice this? they probably do this with lots of movies, but since I know the film from watching it on the dvd, i actually noticed the cable editing this time. frustrating. i was surprised by how many scenes they re-shot like this.
Well it doesn't sound like they are running it in letterbox format, which I think is a big mistake. In letterbox, you have the whole frame width as it appeared in the theater, but there are black strips along the top and bottom. To avoid the black strips and fill the screen with image, they have to choose a portion of the frame to display and skip the rest, optically following action around the frame if it moves. A bad way to be subjected to any movie filmed in a wide screen format!
No regrets at all about not seeing it on cable if this is what's going on!
