this is from the pretty much official pta website, cigarettesandredvines.com
"scott was nice enough to send some more details on the impending dvd release of there will be blood.
The DVD will be released on April 8th, 2008 on a 2-disc collector’s edition. The cover is very classy; personally, I was hoping they’d use the original one-sheet “bible” poster, but this isn’t too bad either — it’s an image of Daniel Plainview looking down into the oil well, taken from a frame near the beginning of the movie. DDL is credited at the top; in the center lies the title “There Will Be Blood” and directly underneath “written for the screen and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson” and at the very bottom “2-Disc Collector’s Edition”.
cover art should be surfacing in a couple weeks, apparently."
so only two more months! yeaaah!
there was also this info from a little while back, i might have already posted this-
"i think it’s safe to let you know the few things i learned about the dvd release when i was last with paul:
> there is no commentary track, nor will there ever probably be one again. paul mentioned to me how alot of the buzz has been taken from doing them because people quote them back verbatim to him in interviews and fun/flippant comments are regarded as gospel. (not a quote, but the gist of what was said)
> the behind-the-scenes footage we reported ages ago that was being shot by austin lynch will, as of this point, not be included on the dvd as a ‘that moment’ style feature. paul said it all turned out wonderfully but that the footage might take away the magic of the film itself saying “it’s just a bunch of people in a desert standing around making a movie.”
> there is an extremely old documentary/footage that was found about mining and oil production from the era. they are planning to cut in jonny greenwood’s score over top of it and make a presentation out of it."
If there's no commentary track or behind-the-scenes footage, then I wonder what else they do have that's going to fill up two whole discs.
Well let's see...art design, music, history, the Burt Reynolds-style blooper reel, the "bowling for oil" video game, the Daniel Plainview oil lease game (kinda like the computer game Civilization, but much more lucrative), the Sing Along with Ma Sunday/follow the bouncing ball hymn section, a documentary on turn-of-the-century fringe Holy Roller denominations, a chat with T.Barry Brazelton on how to properly mix whiskey with milk, the "Men of 'There Will Be Blood'" fashion show, including the long underwear/swimsuit competition....
yeah that stuff.
and it does say the behind the scenes wont be included as a that moment style feature...so it may still be included in some other form, just not as an hour and a half documentary.
E.W. Marland, who gave you permission to be that fucking funny on a forum? Seriously, the internet is not a place for intelligent humor.
Although I can't believe there isn't going to be a commentary (very disappointing), I admire PTA's reasons for excluding it.
E.W. Maryland - you are hilarious. Imagine a TWBB blooper reel? What I gather from the interviews with various actors, DDL included, there wasn't a lot of 'fun' going on between takes...
I am incredibly disapointed with this news. I am hoping you are wrong... No commentary or making-of? What is there two discs for? So Paramount can make a couple of extra bucks? Weak... As an aspiring film maker, I love hearing PT talk. He's a genius! And he's so young! Anyways, that's really lame.. what is with such little behind-the-scenes footage on dvd's these days? It feels like the creators dont want to help aspiring film makers with tips and tricks. That why I've got so much respect for Robert Rodriguez. Sure he made Spy Kids, but at least he has so much behind the scenes footage on Sin City and his other master pieces.
I'm crossing my fingers for an extras feature that ends like a Benny Hill episode, with a sped-up chase through Little Boston and the oil field, with Eli in the lead, wincing and cowering, Daniel behind, beating and slapping the bejesus out of him, HW punching him, and with all of them followed by church members (including the old lady with arthritis beating people with an umbrella), Bandy, Fletcher, the crew, the Standard Oil men, the Sundays, and everybody else, with the restaurant waiter at the very end with the steaks and drinks, while a Jonny Greenwood-scored version of "Yakkety Sax" plays in the background.
There Will Be Yucks A Plenty!
ThereWillBeBowling-
pta apparently isn't fond of commentary tracks because people were misconstruing comments he had made as jokes/whatever...they were turning them into PTA gospel, and took all the fun out of commentaries for him, so he doesn't want to do them anymore...sucks, but it's understandable. if everything you said as a joke were taking as cold hard facts, youd be really careful about what you said too. and there's still a lot of special features, enough for 2 discs....but ill agree with you, i really wish there was a commentary, especially on this, of all his movies.
yeah i have no idea why it's coming out on HD...maybe they already made the discs and want to try somehow to make their cash back....i'm sure we'll get a blu-ray...which sucks because that means i have to buy it twice!
the box art is at this website-
