    Henry's pose on the beach after DP goes back into the water reminded me of this:

    Hippolyte Flandrin's "Young Male Nude."

    But the pose also looked like a photo I saw in Andrew Sinclair's biography of Jack London. This photo was taken by London of his friend, the poet George Sterling, and Sterling was shown sitting on a beach, nude, head down, arms in the same position Henry's are.
